Who We Are and What We Do

At Greendale, we are a not-for-profit, mutual trading company owned by a group of over 100 independent flooring retailers located throughout the UK and Northern Ireland. Our founders were visionary entrepreneurs who had a dream to create a cooperative where retailers could work together to gain better purchasing power, leading to lower costs and increased profitability. Since our inception in 1962, we have grown to become one of the largest and most respected flooring cooperatives in the country.

Our History

Greendale Carpets & Floorings was formed in 1962, when several retailers joined forces to gain better prices from manufacturers. The initial group of retailers, soon known as The Green Group, used their own money to start the business. This innovative approach proved successful, and more retailers wanted to become part of it. Over the years, we have continued to evolve, incorporating new technologies, strengthening our supplier relationships, and expanding our product range.

Established in 1962, we have a long history of collaborating with some of the biggest names in the carpet and flooring sector. Corporate / Social Responsibility

At Greendale, we firmly believe in giving back to the community and reducing our environmental footprint. Our commitment to social responsibility is reflected in our sustainable practices, such as installing solar panels on our head office and warehouse, reducing waste to landfill, and upcycling our discontinued carpet samples. We are proud members of Carpet Recycling UK, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to reducing carpet waste to landfill.

Quality and Durability Concerns

Some customers have expressed disappointment with the quality and durability of Greendale carpets. Charles Russell-Smith, for instance, reported that their Greendale Stromboli carpet, bought for their hall and stairs, developed loops that came undone and suffered from worn edges after just 7 years. They noted that Greendale's expected lifespan for their carpet range is only 6 years, which they find unacceptable. This experience has led them to doubt using Greendale again.

Positive Experiences

On the other hand, many customers have had excellent experiences with Greendale. Several reviewers praised the company's great service, competitive pricing, and high-quality products. Dispute Resolution

Mo, however, had a negative experience with Greendale. They bought a carpet from a local retailer, which developed holes after only 5 weeks. Despite contact with the retailer and Greendale, Mo never received a satisfactory response or resolution to the issue. The dispute was ultimately taken up with the retailer and an insurance claim was made.

Additional Comments

Some reviewers noted the benefits of being part of Greendale's buying group, such as added support and protection, competitive prices, and quick dispatch. Simon Hogan also praised Greendale for having a wide range of high-quality flooring options and excellent customer service.
